2. VISAS
Each student is responsible for having a valid passport and any applicable visas. Students are responsible for fully complying with all requirements of the appropriate immigration authorities both before and during their stay in the UK. If they fail to comply with these requirements and are expelled from the country, they will not be entitled to any refund of fees.
SEFLS reserve the right to refuse an application if we do not think there is an intention to comply with any of the immigration authority regulations.
Students should contact their local Embassy, Consulate or High Commission to ensure they are allowed to enter and study in the UK. SEFLS is not accredited by the British Council and is not eligible to enrol visa students on a short-term study visa.
3. PAYMENTS
Payment methods are explained on the invoice, which will be issued following enrolment.
Non-refundable fees are required to be paid termly in advance prior to the start of each term. Payments must be received in full 7 days before the term start date. Non-refundable fees are not transferrable between students. Students are responsible for any bank fees incurred during the payment process.
Course place is only secured for the period that has been paid for in full.
4. REFUNDS (WITHDRAWALS, CANCELLATIONS, POSTPONEMENTS, AMENDMENTS)
Cancellations
Refunds will be made where it is necessary to close a class due to insufficient numbers or where the attendance of learners is made impossible or inappropriate by some action of SEFLS. Should this action prove necessary, the refund will be processed as part of standard procedures. There should be no need to contact SEFLS to request this.
In the event of a course closure, refunds will not be paid to those learners who have: (i) Voluntarily left the course; (ii) Not attended for a period of four weeks prior to closure without previously agreeing a period of planned absence with SEFLS.
SEFLS will consider requests for a refund made in writing within 14 days of enrolment, where a student changes their mind and they withdraw from their course, with the exclusion of short courses of less than one month. These requests should be made by email to sarah@sefls.uk
If a student cancels their enrolment, any agreed refunds will be disbursed within 45 calendar days of receiving notice of cancellation.
Refunds are based on the date of determination. This is the date the student gives notice of cancellation or the day SEFLS terminates a student enrolment.
All refunds will only be paid to the fee-payer, via bank transfer.
Fees will not be refunded where course closure is temporary or due to circumstances beyond our control, including but not exclusive to: fire, flood or other force majeure, adverse weather conditions, failure of public utilities or transport systems/networks, restrictions imposed by the government, terrorist attack or threat of, epidemic or pandemic disease, temporary staff absences or changes including those due to industrial action.
In the event that a lesson is cancelled due to staff illness, SEFLS will endeavour to offer a replacement class via video conference at a later date and time as determined by SEFLS. In the event of prolonged staff illness lasting more than 4 weeks, classes may be taught by a replacement teacher. If no suitable replacement teacher can be found and if replacement classes can not be offered at a later date, refunds will be offered on a pro rata basis.
Postponements & Amendments
If a student chooses to postpone or amend their initial enrolment, the tuition fee originally charged to the student will be honoured for the first amendment only.
SEFLS must receive notification at least 7 days before the course begins in order for the non-refundable fees to be transferred to a later course date. Failure to provide the required notification will result in these fees being forfeited.
For any additional postponements or amendments, the tuition fee and any relevant promotions advertised at the time of the amendment or postponement will be applied.
SEFLS reserve the right to cancel the enrolment entirely without refund if postponed on numerous occasions.
Any changes to bookings are all subject to availability. Any additional fees that may be incurred due to a change must be paid for in advance of the change being implemented. SEFLS will not refund any difference in fees if the requested amendment is for a course of lower value than the initial booking.
Students cannot exchange group lessons for an equivalent number of private lessons.
5. CLASSES
All applicants must take a level placement test to assess their language proficiency which will determine the appropriate level of study. This will normally involve an initial speaking and listening assessment by video conference, followed by a full assessment conducted in person at the school premises. Applicants seeking an assessment must get in touch via the contact us form on our website.
If a student does not have the minimum level of English required to study on a specific course, SEFLS reserve the right to move the student to an appropriate course for their level, if available. Our decision to move the student to a different course or to refuse access to a course will be entirely at our discretion, and our decision will be final.
Classes will take place either at our premises, or at alternative premises which will be of a similar standard to our own premises. In the event that online study is required, SEFLS will make the necessary arrangements to enable classes to be taught online.
Any missed lessons will not be refunded or rescheduled.
The average number of students in any class depends on the course and the time of year, but the maximum will be 16.
Students are required to purchase the course book as selected by SEFLS.
6. ATTENDANCE
SEFLS students are expected to attend all classes and complete all homework assignments. Students are also expected to arrive for classes on time, to help minimise disruption to fellow students.
A student’s course may be terminated without notice if the student has not attended for a period of four weeks without previously agreeing a period of planned absence with SEFLS. No refund will be given if a student’s course is cancelled for reason of non-attendance.
SEFLS are not obliged to issue credit to students who are absent due to illness.
7. BANK HOLIDAYS
Classes will not take place on Bank Holidays and course fees will be adjusted accordingly.
